Climate Strike in Toronto

September 20, 2019

On September 20th this year Toronto, like many cities of the world, had the first big Climate Strike.

I’ve been walking from the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in Queen’s Park till Nathan Phillips Square, then back to Queen’s Park.

There were so many people, the protest has been very calm and peaceful. During the walk, the police stopped the parade every block to let the cars pass. How can you stop a Climate protest giving priority to the cars traffic? Anyway, it was great to see how many people of all ages took part in this protest.

I really hope that this wasn’t just a parade, wasn’t just a day to get out of work, to get out of school, I hope that something happen now. All the things made so far from all the governments patently failed and I think that the attention on this topic it’s still not enough. For example, just a quick comparison about two events that I saw this year in Toronto: 15,000 people for the Climate Strike, 2,5 million people for the Raptors parade. I’m not saying that the Basketball game is not important, but I think that saving our planet, and consequently humans, animals and plants, should be more important.

Top 10 cities % of population:
  1. New Zealand 🇳🇿 3.5%
  2. Canada 🇨🇦 2.1%
  3. Austria 🇦🇹 1.7%
  4. Germany 🇩🇪 1.7%
  5. Italy 🇮🇹 1.7%
  6. Australia 🇦🇺 1.4%
  7. Ireland 🇮🇪 1%
  8. Sweden 🇸🇪 0.7%
  9. UK 🇬🇧 0.5%
  10. Finland 🇫🇮 0.4%

Worldwide total estimate: 6 million people.

On this event, I tried the Fujinon XF 56mm f/1.2 R Lens. The most famous lens from Fujifilm for portraits, not suitable for events like this, I know. It’s a bit slower compared to the Fujinon 50mm f/2, heavier for sure, but so great. Was a pleasure to use.
Below some shoots, let me know what’s your thoughts.

Thanks!

The gear I’ve used:

  • Fujifilm XT-3
  • Fuji XF 56mm f/1.2 R
